Triathlon Training in Switzerland |
[2010 starts with good resolutions as always. Let's follow my training towards the triathlon season.] Update: it's now 2012 and I race in Geneva! yay! |
It’s not easy to sum up a sport-year a few days after a bad result (or at least worst than wanted), but I’ll try anyway.
The year started with one big objective, the ironman 70.3 in Rapperswill in June. The spring preparation was towards that objective: running was very well trained, as well as swimming, while I forgot a bit the long bike tours because of some work-related limitations in time. However, I have to list a PB on the 10k in April (38’) and on the half-marathon 2 weeks later in Genève (1h29’), symptoms of a good general shape and a very good training. The half-ironman also went well: being perfectly on-time after the swimming and the bike course, much more hilly than what I was thinking (respectively 38’ and 2h50’), I was anyway very tired and had to walk the half-marathon to conclude in 5h50’, which is a good time anyway for a first attempt.
The take-home message here is a lot more of long bike rides and brick training, with maybe less intervals.
The second part of the season was un-forecasted: I tried the “Marmotte”, a bike ride of 180km per 5k uphill meters, beginning of July. That was a tremendous effort that I did almost without specific training (less than 1500km of bike of training).
The last big challenge for this year was Nice Marathon last Sunday. I came in tired by the long season and without all the specific training that a marathon needs. I started to finish in 3h30 (first 10k in 48’, half-marathon in 1h43, 30km in 2h28) but I completely blacked-out at km32, I had to walk the last 10km and it took me 1h35 from there. I am now happy I finished it, as the feeling at km36 was so bad that more than once I thought I would not be able to.
The season was generally positive, with some nice PBs in the spring. I decided anyway that a marathon needs a specific preparation which takes too much time for the moment. I will then concentrate on half- and 10k for the next years, maybe throwing in a marathon for the fun and without looking at the watch.
Now, bring in the nordic ski season! (in a couple of weeks, please)
